英语规则动词的过去式后缀 -ed 的发音取决于 词干(动词原形)末尾音素的清浊属性:
- /t/ 或 /d/:如果词干以 /t/ 或 /d/ 结尾,-ed 发 /ɪd/(如 wanted /ˈwɒntɪd/, needed /ˈniːdɪd/)。
- 清辅音:如果词干以 清辅音(如 /p/, /k/, /f/, /s/, /ʃ/, /tʃ/ 等)结尾,-ed 发 /t/(如 stopped /stɒpt/, laughed /lɑːft/)。
